Today Jason and I went on a ride with Jason's dad and little brother! We had QUITE an adventure! About an hour into the ride Paul started honking at Terry to slow down so he could talk to him. The speedometer stopped working and the engine light came on. So we pulled over and found that the speedometer cable came out and we could not repair it. So we just drove on and Paul pulled over because the light was still on. So Terry drove up to a store a couple miles up the road to get some oil just in case. We continued on and stopped every few feet because the engine light kept coming on! We figured it was either letting us know about the speedometer cable or it was a short in the engine light fuse. Well we continued on through to Henefer and then to Coalville where, yes, we decided to stop because it was SO freakin' hot today! And we were in leather coats and long pants!
But the point of the post wasn't to tell you about the BAD things that happened to us but the sort of spiritual experience I had today while on that trip! Jason and I take a motorcycle ride up through Emigration Canyon at least once a week! It's now kind of boring since we run through there so many times. But it has a lot of history up there. That is where the saints made there finally trip into the Salt Lake Valley. But today we were able to ride through East Canyon! That is where the Donner Party travelled to California and where the saints came over in there quest for Zion. Up through there you can see different posts that mark where the Donner Party went and where the saints were. As we were going through there we stopped at one such marking that posted a lot of heart ache for the saints. As you stand as this spot you see not one but FIVE mountains that the Saints saw. As they hit the top of this spot they thought they had reached their Zion! But they actually met up with their final descent into their Zion. We stood there and joked "What were the Saints complaining about? That took us an hour to get over!" But as I thought about this I could see the Saints struggling with all the posessions they could manage and see out over these mountains and weep, pray, and press on! I couldn't help but turn my heart and thoughts to them for most of this trip!
